The origin of the lip balm dates back to the 1880’s when the chapstick was created in America. It was not a runaway success story right away. Today, however, millions of people round the world are using some form of lip balm. Lip balms create a protective barrier on the lip surface which protects against the effects of wind, temperature and dry air. We have no excuse to have dry chapped lips!
The lip balm is a handy product that is carried around in the pocket, handbag or stored in places such as the desk draw or glove compartment of the car. The fact that a lip balm is so handy and useful makes it a strong promotional item. Give somebody a promotional lip balm and even if they don’t use it themselves it will be passed onto somebody that will use it. So the branding promotional message on a lip balm has longevity, an important consideration in marketing.
